What does Self Extinguishing mean?
Self Extinguishing garments are fashioned from materials that are not inherently flame retardant but instead are treated chemically to gain flame resistance. It should be noted that these garments are NOT intended for use in ARC flash or flash fire applications. Once the flame source is removed from the treated material, the material will self-extinguish within a certain timeframe. It is important to understand that the treated material can melt and drip, and its lifespan is limited based on washings and exposure to external elements. Performance is established using the ASTM D6413 test method.
